In dieser Arbeit wird zunächst der Begriff der Globalisierung mit einer Fußballweltmeisterschaft in Verbindung gebracht, danach wird die Entwicklung der Fußballweltmeisterschaften von 1930 bis 1998 vorgestellt. Schwerpunkte sind hierbei die Zahl der teilnehmenden Länder, sowie der kurze sportliche Verlauf der Endrunde. Dazu kommen jeweils Besonderheiten einer jeden WM, die im Hinblick auf den Begriff Globalisierung interessant sind.
In Punkt four wird die Motivation eines Gastgeberlandes zur Ausrichtung einer Fußballweltmeisterschaft untersucht. Um einen aktuellen Bezug herzustellen, wird hier die Bewerbung Deutschlands zur Ausrichtung der WM 2006 herangezogen.
Die Vergabe der WM 2006 ist auch Thema im letzten Punkt dieser Arbeit, in dem der Ablauf, die Kriterien, die Auflagen und die Fristen zur Ausrichtung einer Fußballweltmeisterschaft vorgestellt werden.
